Its a good dictionary, but they still havent updated it to iOS 7! Come on, what are you waiting for?
Problem with the Sound! Please Control the Sound!
Best english/english Dictionary
It is slow to search and no synonyms. Dictionary.com is much better!
I was very disappointed that the app works only online. It means if you have no net, you can t use it. Also the contact link does not work, so I can t ask for specific help. Very expensive and then only online to use! I ferl cheated upon.
Please update the app icon. Please add the sound button in better place. Please add support for ios 7. Please use better graphics. Please add share via imessage, mail, and facebook. Please add print feature.
Love the offline mode as the audio pronunciations do not require any data connections.
Will increase review if dev will point me to instructions in how to download dictionary for offline mode :-)
Seems to be rather complete, didnt have crashing issues ( ipad 3, ios7). What would make the app better: - audio files in both BE and AE (in the present version there is only one audio file per word, sometimes BE, sometimes AE) - search tool should be improved: at present, no full text search is possible. Given 350000 words and phrases, such a function would be very helpful to find a phrase.
There are simply too many words that Ive looked up which yield no results for me to deem this at all acceptable as representative of the OED. I would actually like my money back.
And workable, that is enough for me
This app update addresses several of the complaints I had voiced out in an earlier review, so I would like to elevate my rating to four stars. Note that this dictionary is the latest 3rd edition of the massive Oxford Dictionary of English. I have the print version of this dictionary (it weighs 8 pounds!); I can confirm that the entries and definitions match word for word between this e-dictionary and the print dictionary.
This is not the complete OED,it is a good dictionary but confers no advantage over free on line dictionaries.not worth the money!
Big fan of the OED, but this version is not as pleasant to use as earlier edition and the audio is markedly inferior. Oh, and its more expensive, too. I regret buying it.
They finally updated it!
Ten days or two weeks ago my copy of the Oxford Deluxe (ODE and OTE) suddenly stopped working. I had paid more than 50 dollars for this app when I got my first iPad in about 2012, and absolutely loved it — particularly the thesaurus. I would leave it open when I was writing and it helped me avoid repetition and cliché, without fiddling around and changing files on the computer. I looked first for the Oxford Deluxe hoping I could find an update. Then I looked for a replacement and eventually found this app. Obviously, it is only half the worth of the previous version — to me, the thesaurus was more valuable to me than the dictionary. I would like to know why there is no “fix’ for the previous, richer, version, and whether there is anything I can do to get the former Oxford Deluxe up and working again.
while the special price.
This app just downloaded itself without me confirming it! I was actually trying to fix a problem with another app (ODE… I don’t even know the difference between that one and this!). I clicked on the ‘purchase’ button, but instead of confirming that I wanted to buy it (where I intended to cancel the transaction), as it usually did, it just downloaded. I tried to ‘report a problem’ and try to get a refund, but just keep getting an error (nginx error!).
I think this app needs improving in these points below: 1) the low-quality audio pronunciations; 2) no American pronunciations given, 3) no iCloud support given for Favorites.
